What is Airsoft?
Everything you need to know about the sport of airsoft.
Airsoft — an honour-based team sport
Airsoft is a dynamic team sport where participants use replica firearms — safe sports equipment that shoots 6mm plastic BBs. Unlike many other contact sports, airsoft is built on the honour principle: if a BB hits you, you call it yourself by saying "hit". No electronic devices or referees are needed — respect for your fellow player is the heart of airsoft.
The history and evolution of airsoft
Airsoft originated in Japan in the 1970s, where strict gun laws prohibited ownership of real firearms. Sports enthusiasts created accurate but safe replica firearms and began tactical gameplay. Today, airsoft has spread worldwide and is played in more than 60 countries by millions of fans. Estonia has a strong and growing airsoft community, united by the N.A.C. (Naissaare Airsoft Club) network.
How does the game work?
Airsoft games take place in various formats — open fields, forests, urban environments and indoor arenas. Typical game scenarios include capture the flag, VIP protection, fortress assault and survival games. Each scenario requires different tactics, strategy and communication skills from the team.
The game begins with a safety briefing, after which participants are divided into teams and receive their mission description. The instructor explains the game boundaries and rules. Then the game begins — adrenaline, strategy and teamwork combine into a unique experience that is remembered for a long time.
Safety is our priority
Jõgeva Airsoft strictly follows Estonian airsoft safety rules and joule limits. Every participant receives a protective mask, which must be worn throughout the entire field area — without exception. Wearing a protective vest and gloves is also recommended. All replicas' joule ratings are checked before play begins, ensuring a safe environment for all participants.
Equipment and replicas
Jõgeva Airsoft provides all necessary equipment so you can fully enjoy the game without worrying about gear:
- Airsoft replicas (pistols, rifles, submachine guns)
- Protective masks — full-face masks protect your face and eyes
- Protective vests and other protective equipment
- 6mm plastic BBs
Experienced players may bring their own equipment, but this is not required.
Airsoft as a sport
Airsoft develops a wide range of valuable skills that are useful both in sport and in everyday life. Physically, the game requires running, crawling and moving across terrain — it is an effective cardio workout. Mentally, airsoft demands rapid situational assessment, strategic thinking and decision-making under pressure.
Teamwork is crucial in airsoft — a team that does not communicate and cooperate cannot overcome its opponents. Participants learn to listen, give instructions and trust one another. These are exactly the same skills that make successful teams in professional life and everyday situations.
Airsoft is also a character-building experience. Honesty in calling hits, sportsmanship towards opponents after the game, and a sporting attitude to defeat — these values make airsoft much more than simple entertainment.
